Whitbread still part of Jackett's plans

Zak Whitbread has not been given the cold shoulder, despite reports in one leading local newspaper and being placed on the transfer list.

The club decided to put the player up for sale after he refused an extension on his existing contract but despite looking to cash in on the American defender, manager Kenny Jackett insists he will still play a part in Millwall's pre-season preparations and may possibly line-up on the opening day of the season

"The position is that Zak is on the list at the moment. We haven't had any bids for him yet and that is a fact," Jackett told the Southwark News.

"We have tried to open things up for him and to see what move might be available. It may work to Millwall's advantage and that we have him until January or all season if a move isn't there.

"If the phone rings before the window shuts on August 31 then we will see, but until then he remains a Millwall player and he will play. Given that it has been over a week since he was put on the transfer list, it has been very quiet.”

Whitbread missed the recent tour of Ireland through injury, fuelling rumours that he had been given the cold shoulder by Jackett but is expected to return to training early next week.
