Manager Dennis Wise has admitted that his Millwall side could do with another four players and blames the on-going Tim Cahill transfer saga as the reason behind the lack of new signings in the summer.

Although Wise is said to be delighted with the performances of several players during pre-season, he is concerned that his squad will not be as strong as he wants when they play their first Championship game at Plymouth on Saturday.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Wise revealed that the £2 million the club received for Cahill came too late for The Lions to strengthen their side.

"Unfortunately, I have had to replace two goalkeepers and a central midfielder and that is all I have been able to do," said Wise. "I needed to bring in another leftback and three or four more players but that is not going to happen."

Wise is thought to have been after Neil Clement, Stan Lazaridis and Barry Hayles amongst others, but the lack of available funds saw moves for all three collapse.
