Millwall boss Dennis Wise has spoken out about the club's lack of signings of the summer and believes Millwall will do no better than also-rans next season.

Speaking to The Sun, Wise insisted that The Lions had no chance of making the play-offs.

''We had talks with a few players," said the diminutive gaffer. "But we couldn't give them the money they wanted. Now it will be difficult for us to go up''

Wise's outburst comes just days after both Darren Ward and Daniele Dichio expressed their disappointment at the club's apparent lack of ambition. Dichio, who was signed by Wise last season, singled out Theo Paphitis for criticism on his personal website.

"I'd like to see the chairman give Dennis Wise a bit of help in the transfer market," offered Dichio. "The gaffer has already shown what he can do on limited resources, but it would be nice now for him to have some money to spend on freshening things up."

"The Championship is going to be a hard, hard league this season. Some good teams have come down from the Premiership and up from the Second Division and all of our main rivals from last year seem to have spent a bit of money on quality reinforcements. If we want to avoid falling behind them, I think we need to buy two or three players quickly."
