Radio Five Live has announced that player manager Dennis Wise may be on the verge of retirement as a result of the injury he picked up against Derby County over the Christmas period.

As reported on Millwall Mad earlier in the week, the medical staff at The Den have been struggling to find out the cause of the injury which has seen the midfielder carried off in his last two games. On both occasions, Wise lost all feeling in both legs.

"One minute everything's fine," explained the manager to the club's official site. "And then suddenly I might stretch or make a pass and suddenly I lose all the feeling in my legs. It is very strange, and certainly I've never experienced anything like it before.

"I've had a scan which hasn't shown anything up so I'm going to see someone on Monday. It may be nerve related stemming from my back perhaps, but at the moment it's a mystery."

The news will come as a shock to many Lions fans, who still see the former England international as an integral part of the team that is currently pushing for promotion.
