Two goals inside three minutes late in the second half gave improving Burnley victory over bottom club Millwall in a game which saw four players sent off.

Northamptonshire referee Richard Beeby dismissed Millwall's Ben May as the players left the pitch at half-time and then gave red cards to Lions midfielder Jody Morris and Clarets star James O'Connor following a skirmish in the 72nd minute. Visiting keeper Andy Marshall was also dismissed after the final whistle after firing a verbal volley at the match official.

Millwall looked destined to record a rare victory courtesy of a goal after just 45 seconds from Jermaine Wright.

The Lions defended well and looked more than capable of holding out until Burnley struck twice in devastating fashion to earn their second home win in five days.

Just minutes after the double dismissal, substitute Nathan Dyer, on loan from Southampton, scored with a low right-foot shot to pull Burnley level.

It followed good work by Garreth O'Connor and was the 17-year-old's first league goal.

Millwall keeper Marshall was soon digging the ball out of the net again when Wade Elliott beat him with a deflected, looping shot from 20 yards after the visitors had only half cleared a corner from O'Connor.

Burnley had the ball in the net for the third time in dying seconds but Ade Akinbiyi's effort was disallowed for offside.

It was a night of outstanding entertainment value and Burnley left to praise the matchwinning qualities of young substitute Dyer, who looks like a player with a bright future.
