Millwall 2 Burnley 0

Millwall were caught up in another racism storm after Paul Ifill had destroyed Burnley at the New Den.

Ifill scored one and made the second to extend high flying Millwall's remarkable tally to 17 points from their last seven games, just one week before they face Tranmere in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

But the game was overshadowed by boss Stan Ternent's accusation after the match that his defender Mo Camara had been racially abused.

He said: "I think it's scandalous really and I feel very sorry for Theo Paphitis and the Millwall people because they are trying extremely hard to eradicate it.

"There is no place for that sort of behaviour. I didn't mention it two weeks ago because I didn't want to be accused of sour grapes.

"I think those people should be surrounded and locked up, that's what I would do with them." But Millwall chairman Paphitis hit back at Ternent by saying: "This sort of thing is beyond contempt. We're determined to stamp this out and have made ourselves unpopular in doing so." Camara was booed from the first minute, but many observers believed it was just a fallout from the two club's meeting in the FA Cup fifth round two weeks ago.

As for the game, Millwall had on-loan keeper Andy Marshall to thank for getting their second win over Burnley in the space of a fortnight and keeping their promotion charge on course.

Ternent's side, who had failed to win in their last 13 games away from home, looked more like the promotion contenders at the start.

Ifill put Millwall in front from their first attack on 12 minutes as he escaped the offside trap to run on to Peter Sweeney's ball to round keeper Brian Jensen and roll the ball into an empty net.

Burnley had every right to feel aggrieved for falling behind as only Marshall stood in their way in the opening ten minutes.

Marshall had to be at his very best to block Alan Moore's shot from close range and on nine minutes got a strong hand to Ian Moore's low shot after Robbie Blake had played him in.

Bradley Orr then had his head in his hands when Marshall flew himself across goal to tip the midfielder's speculative effort from 25 yards out for a corner.

Marshall came to his current side's rescue again when he pulled off a brilliant double save from close range to deny Alan Moore and Blake once again.

Burnley had their own keeper to thank for going in at half-time just one goal down as he tipped Tim Cahill's header over the bar.

But there was nothing he could do after the restart as Millwall came tearing out of the blocks to wrap up the points.

Ifill brilliantly got to the byline running on to Wise's clearance and put in a delightful ball to the back post for Sweeney to fire home.

Burnley huffed and puffed in a desperate bid to get back into the game and their frustration threatened to boil over.

Ternent substituted Glen Little to avoid him getting sent off after getting booked by referee Alan Butler and substitute Luke Chadwick and Camara also went in the book.
