The most capped player in Millwall's history, Eamon Dunphy won 22 of his 23 caps with the Republic of Ireland during his spell at The Den.

He joined The Lions from York City at the beginning of 1966 for the princely sum of £8,000 and played a key role in the club's fortunes over the next eight seasons until his departure to Chartlon Athletic in December 1973. A fans' favourite, he was often criticised for failing to get stuck in when it mattered, but his skill on the ball and accurate passing made him an essential cog in the Millwall machine that narrowly failed to win promotion to the top flight of English football in 1972.

His international career unfortunately coincided with a barren spell for the Republic. Despite Dunphy's best efforts, Ireland failed to win any of their qualifiers for the 1970 World Cup Finals and finished bottom of their group when it came to qualification for the 1972 European Championships.

Now an outspoken broadcast journalist, Dunphy's rise in the media world was kick-started by his book, "Only A Game?", which chronicalled his last year with The Lions in alarming detail.
